Visiting the Seattle area for your winter getaway? If so, make sure to ski or snowboard at Stevens Pass Resort in the majestic Cascade Mountains. And you’re in luck because at the base of those snowy mountains you’ll journey through cozy and convenient Monroe, WA, the perfect location for your après-ski indulgences.
After a long day on the cold, snowy slopes, just pull right off US Highway 2 in Monroe and into the parking lot of the Route 2 Taproom.
The Taproom is a warm, inviting atmosphere, full of wood paneling and holiday cheer. Twin fire pits roar on the outdoor patio under strings of cozy, twinkling lights. Route 2 gives snow sports enthusiasts an opportunity to thaw out. As for warming up their insides, patrons can select any of the twenty-nine beverages on tap as well as a full menu of tasty bar foods – burgers, deep-fried pickle chips, and what are apparently fantastic tater tots.
“This feels like exactly the sort of place you should go to get warmed up after skiing,” said Talia, an avid skier from the Bay Area. “I mean, have you tried these tater tots?”
Her husband Carl agreed from where he sat, sipping a locally brewed lager next to the flames. “There’s regular cozy, then there’s bonfire-and-a-beer cozy,” observed Carl. Wise words indeed.
Carl and Talia were thrilled when they happened to bump into fellow San Franciscans, Cameron and Ally, while waiting for drinks at the bar. This meetup of Golden State skiers might be serendipitous. Or it could be that, increasingly, Californians are discovering the ease of making a quick weekend flight from SFO to SEA for some classic PNW skiing.
Be like Carl and Talia and Cameron and Ally. Hit the slopes, then warm up in town. Don’t sleep on Monroe, Washington: the premiere basecamp for skiing trips in the Cascade Mountains.
